– A piece of Mandy.

My last blog is about confusion with children, often a challenge. As Mother’s day approached on Sunday, I thought it appropriate to write about her confusion.

I’m lucky to see my mother regularly, and she’s not the one to solve the riddle herself. However, since I started my puzzle journey, she has always been happy to sit down at the table to help me with a riddle and is very excited when she finds the pieces that click.

As always in my research, I found stories that inspired me. Although many solvers lost their mother, they still have puzzles that they used to share or belong to their mother. They continue to do so as a way to stick to and appreciate memories.

We share tradition. We do the same puzzle every year and always let our mother put the last piece. We fight. We race together to see who will finish faster or hide each other’s pieces just to laugh. We fight for who gets to participate somewhat. We buy each other puzzles that remind us of what we’ve done and where we’ve been.

I read 4Things The generation riddler whose great grandmother started the family tradition. Her grandmother always had a riddle and a ceiling floor in the closet. My daughter does 48-piece puzzles and she says that she is “like her mother ” I hope that she goes on and will remember my love with the riddle. I hope we can create a tradition.

With all the madness going on in the world today, this is the perfect time to connect. Ignore the flowers, forget the chocolate, give a riddle, and create a memory. Buy an experience that can be remade and passed on.
